Photos by Annie Leibovitz for VogueAnnie Leibovitz captures the magnificent indulgence of Alexander McQueen's genius in this poignant photo-elegy for Vogue's July issue.  For what would become his final collection, McQueen took his inspiration from medieval and Byzantine references.  As always McQueen's eye for embellishment was ever present, this time in gold leaf painted feathers, ornate embroidery and regal volume.  Spring's armadillo heels evolve into the carved platform sculptures.  And all of this excess was sobered by the ethereal pallor of the models' faces.   RIP Alexander McQueen
