Ryan McGinley is a hot young photographer (born in 1977) who captures the energy and enthusiasm of youth. He emerged on the contemporary photography scene eight years ago when he started taking photos of his friends indulging in cheeky and self-assured behavior. His work is highly reminiscent of Larry Clark and Nan Golding with whom he shares a voyeuristic style minus the ugly, gloomy and distressing authenticity. His camera focuses on the raw and personal lives of his friends.
He seems to offer stolen glimpses of his own decadent world, captured in spontaneous yet artfully composed snapshots. Everything looks casual but everything is calculated.

His latest show at the Team Gallery in Soho, New York is entitled "I know where the summer goes".
The work on display has an enduring quality, almost a vintage feel.
The photos were inspired from old National Geographic and nudist magazines from the 60's and 70's.
He travelled across the USA with 16 models and 3 assistants, shooting 4000 roles of films. The result of this elaborate and calculated production was narrowed down to 50 images.
