Trend Talk — A Game of Chess
I've loved the checkered print this season so I wanted to highlight it this week on my Trend Talk feature. There were many designers that took the chess board print and went wild with it. Here are my favourites...
Much Stylish Love

First and foremost...Topshop
The fade in and fade out effect is alluring and puts that edgy but still contemporary twist on the print.Sportsmax

Sheer monochrome with blue and green fluorescent checks that almost like they are either being chipped away or splashed onto the fabric...thats great fabric design! Hermes
Mini checks in neutral shades, overlapping each other in a boxy shape. This reminds me off the background to a tetras game..somehow...
Pairing up the checks with a japanese print is also very clever and gives both prints to stand out on their own without clashing with each other or one speaking louder than the other. Kinder Aggugini
Aggugini took the checkered board to the area of playfulness and fun. This design is a great mix of german heidi dress print that fades away and a quirky map print with a set of low side pockets that almost dont look like there...Alexandre Herchcovitch
A more structured monochrome checkered print from Herchcovitch...made it casual and added elements of interest by adding opposite theme prints on top the check. I love the red and yellow stripes at the bottom of the trousers (3rd image) it reminds me something of a evil version of Alice in Wonderland. Chanel
The subtle but so obvious Japanese shape is shining through...love the different check on check..
Marni
Check behind a check...in a invisible transparent way...in the summers nautical marine colours...

Marc Jacobs
Multiple checkered print explosion is what Marc Jacobs wanted to portray...I count 4 different checkered prints in one outfit...and does it work? of course it does...MJ knows how!
