Spencer FinchAs I was going through my morning email, I stumbled across an article on Spencer Finch. Mr. Finch has been exhibiting his work since the late eighties and currently lives in Brooklyn. One of his newest projects to date is a modern-day stained glass window-ish piece entitled The River That Flows Both Ways. His creation is installed on the High Line and reflects the individual hues fished from the Hudson River itself. (Hopefully once this Noah's Ark rain stops I can catch the glass work framed with bright sunlight.)What seems even more interesting than this are his light installations which set out to recreate specific and fleeting moments such as Night Sky, Over the Painted Desert, Arizona (January 9, 2004) and Dusk (Hudson River Valley, October 30, 2005). Like a tech-day Monet, Finch is obsessed with light and color and capturing their ultra-nuanced interactions. Except Finch manufactures his chiaroscuro with light bulbs, filters and plastics. All these modern/mechanical bits combine to simulate his poetic perception of the natural world. For more, check out his website: Spencer Finch
