Kate Winslet will play Vivienne Westwood in the upcoming biopic of the designer, a spokesperson for the label has finally confirmed.
Word that the Titanic actress — who already boasts auburn locks and a certain uncompromising attitude in common with Westwood — had landed the role has been doing the rounds on the fashion grapevine for weeks and now, officially, it's all systems go.

"The script is going well and Kate will play Vivienne," the Westwood office told press over the weekend. "It has been a long time in the planning but we're very excited that it's happening."

Winslet will reportedly spend time with Dame Vivienne to hone her performance once the script for the movie, which will chart Westwood's rise from her punk roots to international fashion super-stardom, is finalised.

The as-yet untitled production from Universal comes hot on the heels of the eagerly-anticipated fashion biopic Coco Avant Chanel (in Audrey Tatou will play the title role of Coco Chanel), due to be released next year.
