A RUSSIAN AUTUMNWith autumn and winter fast approaching I have re-discovered Gucci's fall 2008 collection: it is Frida Giannini's attempt to turn Russian folklore into a commercial success. She has drawn her inspiration from epic traditional Russian costumes, military Cossack warrior outfits and gypsy accessories adding her own contemporary Gucci touch. The entire show consists of statement looks which can easily be separated and added to any wardrobe. This has resulted in her strongest collection so far: the clothes are slightly aggressive yet highly feminine and discreetly provocative. The looks reveal a degree of sophistication, elegance and artistry. Luxurious details are abundant from embroidery, trimmings, leather fringes, tapestry bags, fur coats, richly patterned dresses, brocades, gold heart necklaces and bracelets etc. Gypsy, boho, rock chick, Russian folklore ... whatever you want to call it, I'm in love ...
