Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie played hero last night when he waded into a vicious row between his best pal Kate Moss and her boyfriend Pete Doherty. The couple had a blazing bust-up backstage at the NME Awards after Babyshambles star Pete was caught trying to smuggle a spoon into the loos at the Hammersmith Palais.
The couple had a blazing bust-up backstage at the NME Awards after Babyshambles star Pete was caught trying to smuggle a spoon into the loos at the Hammersmith Palais The 33-year-old supermodel took her fella aside and issued him a no-nonsense warning after he allegedly slipped the spoon up his sleeve during the dinner for the rock ceremony. Kate was due to present Primal Scream with the Godlike Genius Award, but Bobby thought it more important that she sorted Pete out. He told her to take him home and not to worry about her award-presenting duties. Our source close to 27-year-old Pete said: "Bobby made it clear that he was more worried about Kate and just wanted Pete out of there. He knows he isn't good for her and wherever he goes, trouble follows. "It was supposed to be a big night for Primal Scream and Kate, but he knew for everyone's sake that Pete should just leave."
Sort out your man: Kate and Pete left the awards early despite the model being lined up to present her friend Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie with an award The couple then slipped out a side entrance before the ceremony finished, leaving former Clash star Mick Jones to stand in to present the award. Security guards suspected that perhaps Pete wasn't exactly taking the spoon into the bogs to finish his dessert. He was caught red-handed and had a confrontation with a bouncer before rowing with Kate backstage. Earlier in the night, Bobby let slip that the couple have not yet tied the knot and, despite his disapproval, has vowed to be at the wedding - even if it means cancelling one of Primal Screams' festival appearances. He even hinted that the wedding could be this summer. "Trust me, when they do it I'll be there," he said. "She's only just asked me to come to the wedding. "They haven't tied the knot yet, so I'm on call whenever they want me. "At the drop of a hat I'll be there, even if it means cancelling a festival gig in summer."
